Plastic Is Destroying our Planet
We have to stop supporting the plastic industry. It is destroying the planet. There are other more sustainable products that could be used to revive an item from the era known for inventing “Throw Away Culture.”

Response from Herman Miller
Today, through the development of a more sustainable fiberglass material chemistry, and with a new manufacturing process first developed in the automotive industry to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) in production, Herman Miller is able to once again offer a design icon in the lightly textured surface of fiberglass, while honoring its commitment to environmental sustainability. Herman Miller has also reformulated the color pigments to faithfully reproduce vintage color options while meeting the company’s own demanding Design for the Environment standards. Perfect dining chair
There is a reason this design has been going steady for so long. High quality construction, attractive and timeless. I am an engineer and appreciate things that are made properly. Comfortable and easy to clean too.

Beware of the parchment color
We own two fiberglass Eames chairs, the orange and the parchment, both with wooden legs. The orange chair is beautiful. It was the first we bought and we love it. You can clearly see the white fiberglass speckles, the seat is smooth and shiny. When we ordered the parchment fiberglass I was disappointed. The seat is not smooth to the touch at all, it's actually quite rough, and it's almost impossible to see the fiberglass speckles. I was convinced that there must have been a problem during production with the chair we got, which looked more like the plastic version than parchment, and we were actually able to exchange it for another one. It turns out the second one is just like the first -- not smooth, not shiny. I know each chair is unique, but I am surprised by how different the orange and the parchment are and would not recommend purchasing the fiberglass chair in the parchment color. Had I known before we would have gone with yellow or blue to continue our collection.

Almost great
Chair had a visibly rough edge/blemish on the top of the back rest. Given the location of the blemish, I don't believe it was damaged in transport. Packaging was quite good. At this price point, I expected a higher level of finishing and quality control at the factory.

So I would recommend this chair if you like the aesthetics, US manufacture, and like the brand--but with the following: lower your expectations.

is this chair adequate height for dining table
A shopper on Mar 22, 2017
Best Answer: Yes, the Eames Molded Fiberglass Side Chair would be a great fit for a standard height dining table (28.5"-30" table height). The seat height is universal across the different base options at 16.25" from the floor to the highest part of the seat. The backrest height, also the same no matter the base type, is 31.75" from the floor to the top of the backrest.

Can a new base be installed on an original fiberglass shell?

I own 5 of the original fiberglass chairs with the stacking base and was wondering if I can order new bases for them. I would like to switch to the wire base.
A shopper on Feb 4, 2016
Best Answer: Most of Herman Millers older fiberglass shells have the same bolt pattern that is compatible with the new bases.

To determine whether your chair is compatible we recommend contacting an Authorized Dealer in your area. To find the Authorized Dealer closest to you, please follow this link: http://www.hermanmiller.com/Store/Find-a-Location
