Designer: Mark Goetz
Designed to be the functional centerpiece of a home, the Goetz sofa turns the traditional sofa structure inside out. Combine veneer, upholstery, and accent material for a look that's right for your interior.
Your basic sofa is a wooden frame covered with padding and upholstery. Designer Mark Goetz wrapped the thick, comfortable cushions of his sofa in a striking molded wood shell that creates both a solid structure and a dramatic profile.
The sofa's clean-lined, modern look and characteristic use of molded plywood have made it an instant Herman Miller classic. Beautiful from all angles, the molded plywood shell wraps the entire side and back and has only a single seam.
"I wanted to create something that echoes the collection and respectfully adds to it."
Mark Goetz View Design StoryTo achieve the right look for the wood veneer shell, Goetz incorporated an intricate miter at every corner, so the molded shell wraps completely around the sides and back. The matte finish on the metal legs adds contemporary appeal.
Mark Goetz made sure that his sofa would be comfortable, no matter what position you were in. Thick cushions and a balanced seat depth—shallow enough to give correct support while sitting upright; deep enough to provide enough room for napping—provide ergonomic support and comfort.
The sofa is beautiful—and has been designed to retain its beauty. A durable finish protects the veneer shell for long use and easy maintenance. The cushion covers are zippered, so they can be removed for easy cleaning.
With so many finish options available, you can pretty much design the exact sofa you want. The shell is available in three wood veneers—white ash, ebonized ash, and walnut. For the upholstery, choose leather in a variety of colors and textures, or one of the many available fabrics, either solid or print.
