A Sustainable Detour
Material innovation has always been a part of our design development at Herman Miller and we're excited to incorporate ocean-bound plastic into our products. For example, the Aeron Chair in Onyx diverts over 44 metric tons of plastic annually away from the ocean!
The Process
Suppliers work with local pickers to scavenge the profitable plastics.
These raw materials are washed, sorted, and pelletized.
Then, they’re sold to manufacturers like Herman Miller, where we test and re-engineer the plastic.
Finally, this plastic is incorporated into a growing number of our products and packaging.
