Sayl Chair

I cannot believe that we pay so much for a chair that is called ergonomic, but does not come with adjustable arm height ?
how come the super cheap ones have theses features but not a super fancy pricy chair ?
Bought it from EQ3 and had an unpleasant surprise.

As a chair enthusiast, this is the best chair I have ever sat in.

I've been using one provided by my co-working space for the past 6 months.

The seat back has poor materials choices and is poorly designed. The back is made out of a very "grabby" rubber that pulls up your shirt when leaning back. Further, the chair is very narrow at the top leaning to very poor rotational support for the seat back. To boot, they're not even very nice looking chairs.

Can arms be purchased separately for these Sayl chairs? I have two without arms, and I would love to add them if possible.

I purchased about 20 of these chairs so far. We love the design and the look of it, unfortunately, the padding that covers the arms breaks easily. it is really thin and soft at the tip of the arm pad and it bends every time you get up. All the chairs have the same problem of the tip breaking off. I would like to purchase new pads, but I cannot find availability at Herman Miller web site.

I'm 6'1, got the chair and loved the design and general feel. Had to return it unfortunately though. The top of the chair angles inward at the top, increasing strain on shoulder blades and center of the upper back. This might not have been a huge issue if not for the fact that the seatback just didn't feel like it came up high enough. Giving the Aeron size C a try, see if the extra 2.5 inches of seatback height are all I needed.

Very comfortable chair. I ordered it online and got the Hardwood Safe Wheels, Seat Length Adjustment and Arm Height. But, the bummer is that there wasn't an option to have the Arms swivel out to the side. I wish there was ;(

The fit and feel are really good. The squawks that it makes when leaning in to the arm rests or leaning back are really annoying. I should send it back.

I have had two Herman Miller Sayl Pedestal chairs for two years in my own office as an experiment. I could not be more pleased. Visitors all comment how much they love the chairs. I love the design. I love the feel. When we need more chairs we are definitely going with more of the Sayl. Keep it up Herman Miller--the leader in design for sleek function!

This chair is excellent. The arm rests are made of a plastic material, which feels rubbery. Consequently, the arm rests are very comfortable and make me feel fancy. The back is similarly comfortable because it distributes your weight in a very structurally sound way. The main event for a chair, the seat, is padded with very firm, yet comfortable material. It's an ideal firmness for a chair to work on. The levers are very intuitive; and they function well, in contrast to most chairs I have interacted with in my 27 years of life. Lastly, the wheels are good. When I go over my headphone cords, the cords do not get trapped in the wheel. Lastly, the style is simply superb. It's a beautiful chair.

Very comfortable made in the USA chair that is well made. I love the customization options when ordering and the adjust-ability the well equipped versions have.

I love the way the chair looks, but it gives me a back ache after less than an hour. (I bought it for my home office.) The back rest curves away near the bottom, so there's no support. It's tolerable with a cushion; I'm going to look for a thicker cushion.

The customer service people I spoke with to change the color of my original order were great, and the package arrived on time.

I have a lot of back issues, and as both a PC gamer and someone who does most of my work from home, I needed a great chair. What I received exceeded expectations, because it is the perfect chair for me! It also looks really sharp and I've had so many compliments on it. Definitely worth the price and the wait!

It's a fair price for the quality of the product. I chose several optional features and it's hard to get me out of the chair. We have concrete floors at the office and the chair glides very smoothly along the surface. This chair surpasses many chairs priced at twice the price. I'd strongly recommend it.

My only complaint about this chair is that the back leans forward a little too much for my comfort. Otherwise, this is a really good chair!

Love the look of the chair and the potential, but the adjustable arms move way too easily, don't line up properly in height, and one of two chairs we ordered arrived broken (couldn't adjust seat height). We ended up just keeping it because the seat height happened to work for the person using it, but all in all, not a very sturdy or practical product!

Originally purchased two for the office, bought another one a month ago and cannot wait to outfit the rest of the office with them. Not only is the design impeccable, the comfort and quality can stand on their own!

I sat in the Aeron chair for 15 years and this is more comfortable provides better support

We have a small office and wanted to get chairs that would help the area feel exciting and modern, add a pop of color, but as always with a chair... be comfortable.

We could not be happier with these chairs. We had them customized with the red backs and white bottoms and a grey seat cushion.

The cushion is appropriately firm and does well for an 8 hour work day. We get compliments on these without fail when visitors come through the office.

Also worth mentioning: we had one of our four chairs arrive with a broken wheel. We worked directly with customer service who were AMAZING. They did a wonderful job getting a replacement out to us very quickly and paid for the return shipping on the broken model.

Two thumbs up, five stars, would buy again, would recommend to a friend, all the things. Thanks Herman Miller.

I have back issues and sat in this chair at UM and found out it was incredible.

This chair sits in my crafting space. I have back and joint issues so I needed something with support, but I also wanted it to look as pretty as the space around it. The Sayl Chair with a white back and bright green seat and arm rests does both. It provides all the promised support while still being stylish.

I've had my chair for about three months, and still love it. It's comfortable to sit in all day, and provides the perfect amount of support on the seat and back. The design is sleek yet sturdy. I work at home all day, so I'm sitting for about 8 hours a day. The Sayl makes sitting that long so much easier. It rolls smoothly and quietly, and swivels perfectly. Buying this chair was a great investment!

There isn't enough cushion on the bottom. I found myself trying to justify keeping it due to being Herman Miller but, ultimately wasn't worth the price. The back was stiffer than you would think as well.

In general, I am pleased with the chair, and the design seems to be beneficial for my occasional back pain.

In retrospect, I would have select the optional seat depth adjustment. I believe that being able to make this adjustment would increase my satisfaction of the chair.

I can't say for certain, but, from time to time, it kind of feels like the contact point (on the chair back) for the lumbar support may be 'digging' into my back. Need more time sitting in the chair to determine if this is the case.

I have used Herman Miller products in the past via my work and this purchase was for personal use. The chair is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable overall. However anytime I tilt to the left ,backwards or right the chair pops. The chair is only 3 weeks old, it's done this since day one.

Perhaps my expectations are to high for this chair. Perhaps this is normal as I've experienced this with worn chairs but not one this new. The popping does not impact the intended purpose of the chair, it's more of an annoyance than anything else.

The Sayl chair is so beautiful and simple. Unfortunately I got a back ache the first hour I sat in mine because the mesh back has a rib down the middle that is taut, while the sides are flexible. I was forced to return it. Someone else may find it comfortable, but I will say I don't recommend it. Try to sit in one before you buy it and when you do, lean back and move your back from left to right to see if you are sensitive the the taut center area. I would like to add that it was a relief that Herman Miller has a 30 day no-questions-asked return policy. This made the return super easy, and even though I had thrown away all the packing material, this was not a problem.

Everything is exceptional, love the chair...arms are a bit wobbly, but would definitely buy the chair again.

I love my Sayl chair. It's white with gray seating & arms. It looks great with my other modern furniture. I sit for about 8 hours a day. The seat is very comfortable, not too hard or soft, and I can adjust the tension and lean back.

Customer service has been great! My original chair came with a broken height adjustment knob. They immediately replaced it with a new chair.

The Sayl chair is well-built, stylish, supportive, comfortable and great addition to my home office. The basic model is fine but I would have liked to have been able to afford several of the optional features.

It was a pleasure to deal directly with Herman Miller. The representative was professional & knowledgeable. The price was $150 less than in stores that carry the chair and, which is not the case with retail stores, the chair arrived fully assembled!!!

Back pain I was experiencing resolved within days of getting my new Sayl chair. While the set isn't as comfortable as I would like, the chair is solidly made and easy to adjust.

Looks wonderful, and really just a fantastically comfortable chair.

We'll see if it stands the test of time, but so far I'm so happy with it.

I do think this chair may have saved an employee of mine from a bad back. Sitting in the chair has improved posture and general life appreciation!

In addition, the chair is simply striking without being heavy and bulky like so many others, and the hardwood casters are silent on our bamboo office floor. Everyone in the office loves this chair, and fights over the chance to sit in it.

This chair provides extreme comfort all day long. Having had a hip replaced and bursitis in both shoulders, I needed a good quality chair. I didn't get all the bells and whistles but I did make sure to get the adjustable lumbar back support. Highly recommend this chair to anyone who sits at a desk 8 hours a day. Only drawback is pricing for additional features can be a bit pricey.

I am used to this chair at work, and now I could continue enjoying it at home! Worth every penny.

This chair is a wonderful, modern and functional addition to my house. It is really comfortable and easy on the eyes. It certainly is the most attractive desk chair ever.

I just ordered and received my second Sayl Chair and I have to say I just love it. I chose a different color for the cushion and the white looks fantastic in my small modern home. Thank you for this contemporary, sleek design for a very ergonomic comfortable chair.

The lines of this chair's design are clean and beautiful. I have a 200 year old house and this sleek style fits with our mix of modern and traditional decor. In fact, I liked it so much, I bought a replica of the one from home for our new condo down south.

Before I got this chair, my back and butt hurt after 1-2 hours. With this chair, I can last the whole day at the computer and my body feels great afterwards. Amazing chair. Thank you!!

A few things worth noting if you're considering the Sayl Chair:

- If you are even somewhat tall, you will probably want to opt for the adjustable-depth seat. I'm 6'2", and I found the standard seat far too short for my taste.

- The foam seat is reasonably comfortable, but it's definitely on the firm side when you first start using it. I assume it would break in over time, but don't expect upholstery-level cushioning.

- The suspension back works quite well, and is made of a rubbery material, not hard plastic. It gives when you press on it. I was concerned the narrow top wouldn't offer enough upper back support, but that doesn't seem to be an issue. However, the back material is a bit grippy, and it will grab your shirt if you move around much.

- My biggest issue with the back is the curvature, which is an inherent part of the design. Because it curves away from your body at the bottom, I found it put more pressure on my lower middle back than some chairs with a straighter back (such as the Mirra). This also makes the effective depth of the seat a couple of inches shorter than it looks (hence why I recommend the adjustable-depth seat).

Definitely worth considering if you're looking to get a Herman Miller chair for a pretty reasonable price.

Superb comfort and style. Had this chair at a previous employer. Now working for myself out of my home, purchased two for my partner and me. Definitely a great investment.

The many different speical features that are available, coupled with the questionaire I took in order to get to this model chair was a great and no stress experience. I now have the extra support and durability that a nearly 300 lb person needs to have in a chair.

I am very happy.

Besides all the other wonderful features and options this chair has, it is also just right for my size and needs as an artist who sits at an easel to paint. My back has been a problem for several years and with this chair I can sit all the way back with my feet still touching the floor and pull the chair close enough to the easel to work. I love my little chair and I can work several hours a day longer than before.

This is the first Herman Miller chair I've purchased and based on the quality, I plan to buy more. I love the durability and the warranty behind this chair.

My son's room design is contemporary and he spends a lot of time on the computer so I wanted to buy a great chair that he can also take it to college with him. I found this chair the perfect look for his room. I ordered online with all moving parts to make it the most comfortable. Since it had a money back guarantee, I didn't worry about customizing it and spending the extra money. It arrived on time and we love it. Now I am in the process to figure out where in the house I could use another one of these! I recommend it.

Love that we were able to customize the colors, we ordered apple green seat and fog gray back. Rollers for the hard surface floor are very smooth, no damage to flooring. We have a small space and like that the colors of the chair and open feeling of the back do not make this chair look overwhelming.

This issue is the chair clicks and clacks when sitting in and/or moving around in chair. Sounds cheap and plastic-y. This began about 1 month after it arrived. We've had it for about 7 months now.

Another issue is the difficulty cleaning the fabric, so far no major stains, but pet hair gets embedded in fabric (probably from my clothes, no pets on chairs) and is difficult to remove.

I did not get the lumbar adjustment because I tend to sit forward, but the back with no adjustments is very comfortable. Overall we are enjoying the chair, just wish it was not so noisy.

The adjustable arms I paid extra for are not user friendly at all. They have a focus on aesthetic over function and that was a mistake. There is no button for them and they ratchet up and if you pass the spot you'd like them to rest, you must pull them all the way up, let them fall all the way down and try to get the exact height you want over and over until you get it right. Also, the wheel that is used to adjust resistance doesn't really have a hard stop to let you know the limits of the adjustment. Kind of confusing. On the bright side, the chair is gorgeous and feels great.

Great chair. We liked it so much that we ordered another one. The ability to customize the design features is awesome. The chair itself is very comfortable and do not feel fatigued after a full day in it.

I was disappointed at the quality of material and workmanship. The structure is cheap-looking plastic. The edges are rough and sharp. The lumbar support has limited range of motion and is made of cheap plastic

Our office bought us all these chairs. Knowing the price I see now I can say that the chair is not worth it. The seat is uncomfortable, and doesn't have any ventilation, the back digs into my shoulders and doesn't conform, the rigid plastic on the back is uncomfortable, and the non-adjustable foam-plastic arm rests are falling apart on multiple chairs after a couple of years.

Save your money, buy a different chair. I told my office mates how much these chairs cost and they were all surprised - it feels like a chair that costs one fifth what it actually costs.
