My One and Only since 2014
I bought this as a gift for myself back in 2014 when I got a promotion at work and it's now 2020 and still using it. The seat's fabric is in great condition for the amount of use. I am a PC gamer, 5'2, 115 lb. I sit cross-legged and lean forward most of the time, so I do sit unusual compared to others. I am on a computer majority of my day, everyday. I've sat in gaming chairs and I'm not a fan of racing-esque designs I've concluded as it doesn't suit how I sit. This chair is everything to me so if you're similar to me, this could be the chair for you.

Not comfortable!
The back structure just does not work. I'm on the taller side (6'1") and the upper parts press into my back and compress it inwards a bit. Since I switched to this chair I've been having upper back pain I never experienced before.

Quality is mediocre. Comfort is terrible for anything over an hour. No warranty support.
I have two of these, both about 5 years old. Not even close to comfortable as one of my Aeron chairs which vastly superior and comfort, quality and materials. Good luck getting anything out of that "12 year warranty". The arm broke on one of my Sayl chairs and I could not find the original receipt - Herman Miller "sorry but we cannot help you" - Great warranty support. Will never purchase another product from HM.

Response from Herman Miller
I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulty pursuing warranty for your Sayl Chair. The Sayl comes with a 12-year warranty for the original purchaser of the chair. By verifying the purchase using either an original receipt or the white manufacturing label from under the chair, we are able to initiate a warranty claim. I will reach out to you by email to learn more about your order and to see how I can help. Looks great but arm rest and seat quality is wanting
I have had the Sayl chair for 6 years. In my office, we use herman miller aeron, mirra and eames chairs.

The sayl chair gets used less than the chairs in my office but the seat is nearly worn through, and starting having troubles 2 years in. Same with the arm rest, the foam part of the arm rest has completely degraded on its own and now looks like the foam has ripped off its side and quite cheap looking.

I would not recommend the sayl chair, seems like the more expensive products are ok but the avoid the lower end of herman miller. This is quite disappointing and my opinion of the herman miller name is a bit tarnished.

armrest not working
the chair does have adjustable arm height, but it is super hard to move down. there is no easy lever to press to make it slide. You end up having to use force, which also works only once in a while

I’ve had the Sayl chair for close to 6 months and I’m sad to say it’s uncomfortable. It sits well and has good support. But, if only wearing one layer of clothes, after about 30 minutes the webbed backrest begins to irritate my back and even leaves somewhat painful skin impressions. I’m now on the hunt for an additional pad that can leave the aesthetic intact yet alleviate the discomfort.

non adjustable arm height
I cannot believe that we pay so much for a chair that is called ergonomic, but does not come with adjustable arm height ?
how come the super cheap ones have theses features but not a super fancy pricy chair ?
Bought it from EQ3 and had an unpleasant surprise.

As a chair enthusiast, this is the best chair I have ever sat in.

Seat back an amalgam of poor choices
I've been using one provided by my co-working space for the past 6 months.

The seat back has poor materials choices and is poorly designed. The back is made out of a very "grabby" rubber that pulls up your shirt when leaning back. Further, the chair is very narrow at the top leaning to very poor rotational support for the seat back. To boot, they're not even very nice looking chairs.

Can arms be purchased separately for these Sayl chairs? I have two without arms, and I would love to add them if possible.

What is the weight capacity of the Sayl chair?
zeroTORK on Jan 25, 2018
Best Answer: The Sayl chair is rated up to 350 pounds. If you have any other questions, feel free to email us at hmstore@hermanmiller.com or 888.798.0202.
Can I leave off the arms of the Sayl Chair? It appears that there are stoppers you can put in where you would normally attach the arms (to fill in the hole), but I'm not sure if these come with the chair or if it is possible to order them separately.
Matt G on Mar 22, 2019
Best Answer: The Sayl chair can be ordered without arms. If you're interested in ordering it without arms, please contact us at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com
What are the base dimensions? Width? Depth? Does that include the base and the castors? I need to be able to roll the chair through a narrow doorway. Thanks.
KBeck on Aug 11, 2019
Best Answer: The base on the Sayl chair has a diameter of 27 inches. This includes the casters.
Do you still offer a smaller size in the Sayl chair?
Susan K on Jun 6, 2019
Best Answer: The Sayl chair is only available in one size. If you reach out to us at 888-798-0202 we are happy to walk through all the different options and recommend what can help make it the best fit for you.
How adjustable in terms of height of the arm rest? I'm particularly interested how low it can go?
Tony L on Apr 1, 2019
Best Answer: Both the height adjustable and fully adjustable arms on the Sayl chair can range between 6.7-10.8 inches above the seat.
Is there any way to stop the castors from rolling? My husband has Parkinson’s and needs a chair that does NOT roll away from him when he tries to sit down.
Gaston on Nov 24, 2019
Best Answer: While we do not have casters that lock in place, we do offer a caster with an internal braking mechanism which causes friction within the wheel to reduce the ease with which the casters will roll as the user is sitting in the chair (prior to the chair being occupied). This caster can be purchased by calling 888-798-0202.
Can I add lumbar support to one that doesn’t have it?
Phil L on Oct 13, 2019
Best Answer: The Sayl chair can have a Lumbar support added to one configured without it- please use the following link to contact an authorized service center/dealer in your area-

What height are the non adjustable arms?
w@tergurl on Jul 22, 2019
Best Answer: The non-adjustable/fixed arms are 9.4 inches above the seat. This measure is taken from the middle of the seat to the height of arm.
What is the usage rating for this chair?
Asik P on Jun 20, 2019
Best Answer: The Sayl chair is rated and tested for up to 350 pounds.
