Divider

Frame, Base, and Standard Armpads

Normal cleaning

Wash surface with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.

Do not use solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners.

8Z Pellicle Suspension Material

Normal cleaning

Vacuum fabric as needed using an upholstery attachment. Vacuuming picks up dust and reduces the need for professional cleaning.

Do not brush fabric or use a vacuum attachment with a rotary brush. Brushing may permanently damage the nap or change the character of the fabric.

Spot Cleaning

Immediately soak up the stain with a soft absorbent cloth.

Do not dry the stain completely or it may set. The longer a stain is allowed to remain on a fabric, the more difficult it is to remove.

Water-based stains such as coffee, soft drinks, fruit juices, or milk

Use a water-based cleaner (specifically made for cleaning fabric) or a solution of mild (alkaline) warm soapy water (not overly soapy) applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Work the cleaner into a lather or foam.

Never use hot water; it will set the stain. Avoid scrubbing.

Oil-based stains such as lipstick, grease, or salad dressing

Use a dry cleaning solution applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Test the cleaning solution on a small, concealed area first. If there is no spotting, ringing, or damage to the fabric or its dyes, apply the cleaning solution to the soiled area with light, quick strokes. Begin at the outside of the stain and work toward the center, being careful not to over-saturate the fabric.

K2R is also a product that can be used. See product label for complete instructions. Do not over apply water or any liquid solution to fabric. Excessive wetting of the fabric with any liquid solution may result in permanent damage to the material. Do not rub too vigorously or you may damage the nap of the fabric or break fibers. Several light applications are better than one heavy application. Soak up all remaining solution and then use another clean cloth or sponge dipped in cool water to remove any residue. Let fabric dry thoroughly and then vacuum well before using. If the stain resists cleaning, contact a professional cleaner.

Large Areas

If large areas are soiled, contact a professional cleaning firm.

Original and Remastered
I've just taken delivery of a remastered Aeron in Mineral & Polished Al for my wife's home office and noticed that my own Aeron was just coming up to its 4th Birthday.

The remastered one does feel a tiny bit different, the base seems slightly more forgiving on the new one, more comfy maybe, if that's possible.

I do like (and prefer) the added flexibility of the new arms.

However I do feel my "original" retains the iconic look with its executive fabric and the larger "bulb" under the seat.

We are now a happy Herman Miller couple!

Porsche of chairs—classic aesthetics, high performance, and functional.
After recovering from the initial sticker shock, I did the math on a fully-optioned Aeron, and learned that over the expected lifetime (at least 15 years) of this chair, the amortized cost is around 25 cents per day, small price to pay for my long-term health. I already have the older classic version that is 15 years old, and except for the scratched casters and faded arm pads, everything looks and functions as near-new, especially the mesh seat and back. In fact, the older it got, the better the plastic graphite base/frame parts looked, faded into a metallic luster and hardness that is hard to tell that it's actually plastic. Also, I've come to appreciate the classic, now-understated aesthetics of the Aeron. Unlike other chairs with every adjustment option and flashy designs, the Aeron remains a purpose-driven machine, with function following form.

For potential buyers, I recommend getting at least these options: lumbar support, tilt limiter and seat angle, and height adjustable arms. On my new remastered version, I couldn't tell much difference between the old lumbar support of the classic Aeron and the new Posturefit SL on the remastered. The forward seat angle (with tilt limiter set to the most forward position) really supports my back when I'm leaning into the keys, which is often, and no other chair I've tried does this so well or at all. If possible, also consider the fully adjustable arms, which when angled in tight toward the body, elbows can rest naturally when typing. The leather arm pads are certainly not necessary, but it's nice to have on the one part of the chair that I constantly touch with my hands. The vinyl arm pads on my classic are fine and durable, but the luxurious feeling of leather and stitching was worth the additional $80 for me. My only regret with the options I chose is the polished aluminum. I thought they would be more shiny, but they're rather duller than I imagined from the photos, and the base will probably scratch and dull even more over time. In comparison, the graphite on my classic still looks great.

If I had complaints about the Aeron in general it's that there is small but noticeable wobble when I jiggle the seat. I bought two at the same time, and they both do this. Once I sit on it, the wobble doesn't seem to affect performance, but considering the overall build quality, this flaw is noticeable. My older classic doesn't do this, and I do worry about longevity on this remastered. Another issue might be the shipping. I decided to order directly from HM, and I expected the chairs to come directly from their warehouse. Instead, they were shipped from Design Within Reach, a highly reputable retailer no doubt, but not what I expected. Also, although both were delivered sooner than the confirmation email indicated, they were delivered separately on two different dates, and the tracking numbers from my confirmation email didn't match the actual shipments. Small quibbles.

Compared to their older versions - this doesn't compare
Being in finance in NYC for nearly 20 years now, I've used older versions of the "Aeron" chair and they were superb! The support, height, depth, and adjustable functions such as the lumbar support of those chairs were incredible. This new "redesigned" chair though, has a lot to be desired - to be honest the old versions were much superior to this new model. The models we had around the mid-2000s were the best in my opinion as far as how many things you could adjust, the lumbar support, depth, height, etc. - this new chair just doesn't have the dimensions. It appears they've reduced/decreased "inches" off of a lot of the dimensions such as seat depth, seat height, etc, while also removing some adjustable options such as not being able to adjust the seat depth, which his a huge disappointment for this new chair and the lumbar mechanism for either type of lumbar support now available falls flat compared to the models around 2006-2007.

The older model around that time frame was solid as a rock, had all kinds of great dimensions to fit anyone, even very long legged/tall people and tall and big people etc. - these chairs seat depth is sooo shallow it doesn't fit right and cuts off circulation! And you cannot adjust the set "out" or "in" closer or away from the back rest - so unfortunate. Like I said, it appears they've found ways to cut corners to reduce cost for them, but the price is still high, and actually higher compared to 10-15 years ago when the chairs were still excellent. For the quality you are getting now - it's better to look elsewhere.....

Response from Herman Miller
We agree, the Classic Aeron was a great chair. When redesigning the Aeron chair we took all the research and learning we had with the Classic Aeron chair and applied it to the remastered version. Both the Classic and Remastered Aeron chairs are offered in three different sizes to accommodate users of different sizes. The dimensions on the Classic and Remastered chairs are the same and due to the multiple sizes Aeron isn't offered with an adjustable seat depth. I will be reaching out to you via email to learn a little more about the chairs you've used previously. It sounds like it may have been our Mirra chair which is often mistaken for the Aeron chair.

Best. Chair. Ever!
Let me start by saying I didn't get to pick my chair, but it doesn't matter, because I still got what I would have picked! Many years ago, my mother sold office furniture, and even today she says Herman Miller is the best. After 10 years with this chair, I have to agree. My office has nearly 100 of these chairs, and as far as I know, everyone loves them.

One word of advice: dust builds up under/in/on the chair in places you don't readily notice, and guarantee your janitor likely isn't looking. Every so often, you need to turn the chair upside down and give it a really good cleaning. Otherwise, like me, you'll be on the floor looking for something you dropped and be horrified by what you notice. That's on me, not the chair, but now you can't say you didn't know. I don't feel so bad now that I've shown several co-workers and theirs were just as dusty.

Over 16 Years Using The Aeron
I had one at work for ten years and loved it, the best, most comfortable desk chair I ever had. I retired and bought one for my home office and have used it for over six years. I have never had a problem with the chair and I wouldn't think of using another chair, although I probably will never have to. Pricey, yes, but very solid, high quality, great design and really worth every single penny.

Initially I like it
The chair arrived earlier than promised, was completely assembled :) and easily adjusted. The chair is very sturdy and generally comfortable. It took me a few days to get the settings the way I want them, but after a few weeks I feel like it was a good investment.

Also, the warranty is better - by far - than the other chairs I purchased and returned.

Cause Herniated disc at lower back.
it was my dream chair until i got it. since it has really soft cushioning, it cannot support lower back at all. since I changed my chair to this one, i got serious lower back pain in one week, my doctor diagnose me with herniated disk at lower back, and the problem was from its soft cushion. this chair is so great, good quality, but it is terrible for people with lower back pain.

Arm Adjustments on the Aeron Chair

What is the difference between height adjustable arms, adjustable arms and fully adjustable arms?

My guess is the following, but I really need to know!

Height = just up and down?

Adjustable = in and out (meaning toward seat base or out further away from seat base?

Fully Adjustable = both?

Thanks,

Cynthia
A shopper on Oct 20, 2016
Best Answer: The differences between the arm options are below:

Height-Adjustable Arms adjust from a height of 6.8 inches above the seat to 10.8 inches above the seat. This gives you the ability to support your arms at a comfortable height.

Adjustable Arms adjust from a height of 6.8 inches above the seat to 10.8 inches above the seat and are able to pivot 15 degrees outward and 17.5 degrees inward.

Fully Adjustable Arms adjust from a height of 6.8 inches above the seat to 10.8 inches above the seat, slide backward and forward over a range of 2.5 inches, and pivot 15 degrees outward and 17.5 degrees inward.

What’s the difference in seat width of B chair also C chair?
Debbie S on Jan 25, 2018
Best Answer: The seat width for the B-size Aeron chair is 20.25 inches. The C-size Aeron chair seat width is 21.6 inches.

We can be reached at hmstore@hermanmiller.com or 888.798.0202 if you have any additional questions.
On the cusp between B and C - which size?

I am just a hair shy of 6 feet, 5'11+3/4" let's say, and 175 pounds. I'm curious whether B or C is right for me; all of the Aeron chairs I've sat on in the past were C I believe, but I'm wondering if they were always actually a little large and the chair is "supposed" to feel a bit more snug. Or at my size, is C definitely the way to go?
A shopper on May 23, 2017
Best Answer: The Aeron size B chair is recommend for 5'3"-5'11" and the Aeron size C chair is recommend for 6'0" and above.

The Remastered Aeron Chair has zonal support in the back and seat which will allow for a "more snug" fit than the Classic Aeron Chair.

Based off your height, we would recommend the C size Remastered Aeron Chair.

Should you run into any challenges, please contact the Herman Miller Store at 888.798.0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.
do you have chairs that come with headrest?
A shopper on May 3, 2017
Best Answer: Any headrest versions of our chairs are not manufactured or supported by Herman Miller. The addition of an aftermarket attachment to the chair may void the warranty and potentially void the full ergonomic benefit of the chair.

Our High Performance Seating - Embody, Aeron, Mirra, and SAYL - support the spine at the sacrum (via PostureFit) and thoracic. By doing this, we stabilize the lumbar and cervical (neck). When you are sitting in the chairs correctly, your spine and neck are aligned and a headrest is not needed.

If there is anything else we can help with, please contact Herman Miller Store Customer Care at 888.798.0202.
Can I specify the color of the pellicle material? A friend has "Carbon Classic Pellicle" but I do not see this option.
A shopper on Mar 8, 2017
Best Answer: No, Pellicle colors and patterns from classic Aeron Chair are not available on new Aeron.

One of the benefits of new Aeron is the simplification in specifying the Pellicle. Even though Pellicle is still a specification step, the Pellicle color is tied to the frame finish you choose and there is only one option presented when you arrive at the Pellicle step.

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any further questions at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.
Continuous Usage 8 or 12hrs

Is thi chair design 24hrs 365 usage such as an operation control center?
A shopper on Dec 5, 2016
Best Answer: The Aeron Chair is rated for 24/7/365 usage and would be ideal option.

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any further questions at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.
Adding PostureFit

I know it is recommended to visit an authorized dealer but is it possible to buy the PostureFit addon subsequently and install it at home myself?
A shopper on Dec 1, 2016
Best Answer: The PostureFit SL requires a back change as there are two holes at the bottom of the back that Posturefit SL is anchored to. The Classic Aeron PostureFit cannot be added to the new Aeron Chair due to the different dimensions of the Classic vs the Remastered version.

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any further questions at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.
What is the weight limit on the new Remastered Aeron?

As per the size reference chart on the Remastered Aeron page, it seems that the upper weight limit of the Size C its 350 lbs, is this correct? This means that the new Aeron has an increased weight limit over the old one, correct?
A shopper on Oct 30, 2016
Best Answer: The Aeron chair size B and C is tested and warranted up to a maximum of 350 lbs, which is an increase of 50 lbs over the classic Aeron chair. The size A is tested and warranted up to a maximum of 300 lbs.

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any further questions at 888.798.0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.

What material is the base made of?

I'm probably the world's clumsiest person; about the only thing I haven't broken is my work Aeron chair (old style).

I just want to confirm that the base of the new model (regardless of finish) is still metal, before I buy one for home use.
A shopper on Feb 16, 2017
Best Answer: The 5-star base shall be either die-cast aluminum, with either a polished, smooth powder-coat epoxy finish or a glass-filled nylon material (plastic). Each base has the following options:

Graphite Frame

Graphite Base Finish - Glass-filled nylon material

Polished Aluminum Base Finish - Polished die-cast aluminum

Carbon Frame

Dark Carbon Base Finish - Glass-filled nylon material

Satin Carbon Base Finish - Smooth powder-coat epoxy on die-cast aluminum

Polished Aluminum Base Finish - Polished die-cast aluminum

Mineral Frame
