Exceeds Expectations
One of my goals was always to own one as one as my grandpa had one growing up. Sitting in it alone is an experience that just takes you away. You are just awestruck at its design as it sticks out and feels like a Heisman Trophy is in your living room.

Happy Customer
Have had the chair for a little over two weeks and love it. Currently enjoying the NFL Championship. I am 6’3” and the tall fits perfectly. So odd to own a functional work of art that probably will outlive me!

my new chair
when i was ordering the chair i was thinking maybe i should get the tall, but i'm only a little over 6', i don't shop at the big and tall shop. unfortunately the regular sized chair is a little too small. with my tailbone against the seat back, l'm looking at the ceiling while using the headrest. what would be involved in moving to the tall? thanks

Forty two years later
My girl friend and I were very impressed with this chair when it was designed in 1962. She and I both coveted it. I am now a happy owner and still love the chair. My hats off to the designer and Herman Miller. Well done.

Stickers and decals

Do the lounge chair and ottoman come with the Herman Miller round metal decal and the stickers?
A shopper on Jan 2, 2012
Best Answer: Yes, the Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman has a medallion that can be found on the underside of the chair. Most other Eames products also have the same medallion to signify them as an authentic Herman Miller Eames product. Attached is an example of what the medallion looks like.

If there is anything else we can help with, please feel free to contact Herman Miller Customer Care at 888.798.0202.
Does the Eames Lounge chair seat back support the neck of a 6' tall man?
A shopper on Oct 27, 2013
Best Answer: The Eames Lounge Chair has a height of 24 inches from the top of the seat cushion to the top of the seat back. For most men over 6 feet, the seat back supports them up to their shoulders in a lounging position, however, does not support the neck.

Please give us a call at 800.798.0202 if you have additional questions or if there is anything else we can help with.
Is there an option to get this chair in a fabric material like cord?
A shopper on Sep 25, 2011
Best Answer: We do not currently have plans to offer the Eames Lounge & Ottoman with a fabric option like Cord, but we appreciate your suggestion. The Eames Lounge & Ottoman chairs made today stay true to the original design by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956. Over the years we have made slight changes to provide the best possible product while still honoring the design heritage. The chair's original design included an aniline leather, and we now offer a new MCL leather, which provides the same softness of the original leather, along with durability and color-fastness.
Where are the Eames Lounge Chairs & Ottomans assembled and where are their parts manufactured? Where does the leather come from?

I'm interested to know what the origin of the materials for these iconic chairs are. Thanks in advance!
A shopper on Dec 8, 2011
Best Answer: The Eames Lounge & Ottoman is handcrafted in West Michigan. The wood chosen for the veneer shell and inner plies comes from different areas in the US and Canada, depending on which species you select. Once the wood is brought to West Michigan, it is processed and the veneer is evaluated to ensure that it is high quality. All veneer parts for each Eames Lounge & Ottoman are taken from the same tree so you have a consistent wood grain within your chair. The look of the wood grain varies from chair to chair because they are made from different trees, which makes each chair unique.

Leather for the Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman comes from Austria, and is hand selected once it reaches West Michigan to ensure quality. The assembly of the wood shell pieces, hand selected leather and assembly components takes place in West Michigan. Each leather-covered cushion is upholstered individually by hand.

Since first launching the chair in 1956, Herman Miller has been very careful to make sure the chair you order now performs as beautifully as the original. We recently re-launched the hand oiled version of the Eames Lounge & Ottoman in Walnut and Santos Palisander to match the look and feel of the original chair and ottoman. Each veneer piece is hand oiled over a series of a few days before the chair is fully assembled.
is the Eames lounge available in other material than leather?

is it available in any other material than its original, leather?
A shopper on Dec 2, 2011
Best Answer: At this time we are only offering the Pearl MCL leather for the Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman in white ash. We do offer many different leather options for our Eames Lounge & Ottoman in the following finishes:

- Oiled Walnut Veneer
- Walnut Veneer
- Oiled Santos Palisander Veneer
- Santos Palisander Veneer

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any further questions at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.
I'd like further info on the difference between the regular veneered surface and the oiled finished surface. Is it simply a matter of the finish?
A shopper on Mar 17, 2012
Best Answer: Our standard finish is an oil-based lacquer, which is how we have been finishing the Eames Lounge and Ottoman for many decades. It is a finishing process that has been created and tested so our chairs will maintain their quality over time, with only dusting needed to maintain the finish. Our veneer options of Walnut Veneer and Santos Palisander Veneer have our standard finish.

Our original Eames Lounge and Ottoman was created with a hand oiled finish, which is an option that some of our customers have been longing for. Over the years, we re-introduced the original Santos Palisander Veneer (an environmentally friendlier version of the original Brazilian Rosewood), which brought back much of the original character of the chair. The remaining ingredient for customers who want to purchase a chair that closely replicates the original look was to bring back the hand oiled finish.

For each chair that we create with this finish, our team in Michigan hand oils the veneer pieces over the course of several days before the chair is assembled. The hand oiled finish requires a little more care for the owner and has a lower sheen than our standard finish. With the hand oiled finish, you will need to re-oil in the first few years and be careful not to use wax based dusting products. We offer the hand oiled finish both as Oiled Walnut and Oiled Santos Palisander.

Both veneer finish options make a beautiful chair, so we leave the choice up to you so you can pick the option that best fits your style. If there is anything else we can help with, please give us a call at 888.798.0202.
What is the weight capacity?
ExRev on Jan 20, 2019
Best Answer: The Eames Lounge Chair is tested to 300 pounds.
In what year did Herman Miller quit making the Eames Lounge in Rosewood?
A shopper on Feb 1, 2017
Best Answer: Herman Miller has stopped using Rosewood to build the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman because it is now an engangered wood. It has been replaced with Santos Palisander and Walnut.

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any further questions at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.
Are there height ranges recommended for the normal versus tall?

I am trying to figure out which would be a better match for me. Are there ranges recommended for each style of chair?
A shopper on May 10, 2015
Best Answer: Herman Miller would recommend users who are 5 feet 8 inches or taller to select the Tall size of the Eames Lounge Chair. For users who are below 5 feet 8 inches, Herman Miller would recommend selecting the Classic size.

If you have any other questions, please reach out to the Herman Miller Online Store at hmstore@hermanmiller.com or 888.798.0202.
Fire compliance stickers

My ELO from DWR came with fire compliance stickers on the palisander veneer (on the bottom). I peeled the corner of one of the stickers and it left a sticky residue. Are the stickers meant to be left on the veneer? Should I peel them off? If so, what should I use to remove the sticker residue?
A shopper on May 16, 2017
Best Answer: The product labels are not recommend to be removed. They are placed on our products to provide customers with valuable information. If you have already removed your product stickers, I would suggest using a damp cloth and rubbing softly in circular motions.

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any further questions at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.
What is the difference between Leather and MCL leather?
Nell A on Feb 19, 2019
Best Answer: MCL Leather, is a premium, semi-aniline, dyed leather with
100 percent natural full grain, which will acquire wrinkles and creases and
develop a rich patina over time. Color variations and surface marks are
an inherent characteristic in this leather. Due to its supple quality, cushions
upholstered in MCL may possess more inherent wrinkles, giving an
additional, lived-in aesthetic.

Standard Leather is superior to many other leather options on the market today. Like our MCL leather options, standard leathers are semi-aniline dyed, natural grain leather that wears beautifully. Standard leathers are thicker and not as soft to the touch as MCL leather.
Does the Eames Lounge Chair tilt forward or backward or pivot in a circular manner on the axis of the vertical support pedestal?
A shopper on Jan 19, 2013
Best Answer: The Eames Lounge Chair has a built in 15 degree recline that is static and cannot be adjusted. The chair also offers a full 360 degree swivel in a circular manner.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact Herman Miller Customer Care at 888.798.020
Does this chair reclines?
W H on Aug 22, 2019
Best Answer: The Eames Lounge & Ottoman does not recline. It sits at a fixed angle of approximately 15 degrees.
is it possible to order the chair with eames lounge with wheeled casters?

needed wheels to put the chairs in a sunroom
A shopper on Apr 1, 2017
Best Answer: No, the Eames Lounge Chair is not offered with casters.

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any further questions at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.
Shock mount durability

Hi, I've seen that with older chairs there can be issues with the shock mount holding the chair detaches from the frame causing the whole chair to collapse. Have there been design improvements in recent chairs to minimize this problem? If not, what is the best way to minimize this problem?

Thanks!
A shopper on Feb 10, 2017
Best Answer: While we do occasionally get reports of broken shock mounts - typically on older chairs -- we are happy to report that the vast majority of chairs will provide decades of use and will be heirlooms that can last for generations with proper care. As is the case with most furniture, the chair's ultimate life will depend on usage, environment, care & maintenance and other factors. The shock mounts, the adhesives, and even the plywood in the chair itself will all degrade with time and may break/peel away from the chair or the laminations of the plywood may separate at the mounting point. In many cases, broken shock mounts can be repaired allowing the chair to remain in service, thereby extending its useful life.

Depending on the age of your chair, there could be several changes or improvements in the chair design, materials used and/or manufacturing processes that extend the life of the chair. We recommend keeping the chair in a controlled environment (avoiding excessive heat, humidity and exposure to direct sunlight) which is helpful in maintaing the integrity of the chair. Avoiding misuse by children and/or use by users over the 300 lbs weight limit will also be helpful in extending the product's life. We recommend occasional and routine inspection of the chair to look for any loose fasteners, loosening or partial disbonding (pull-away) of the mounts and/or plywood delamination of the chair frame especially near the shock mounts. Routine inspection will be helpful in preventing total "collapse" of the chair or other serious damage that might prevent repair of the chair.

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any further questions at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.
Is the 2109 a full grain aniline leather?

Eames lounge chair and ottoman
A shopper on Oct 6, 2016
Best Answer: The standard leather (2100 Series) is a less defined grain, aniline leather.

The MCL (Modern Classic Leather) is a full grain, semi aniline leather.

Please contact the Herman Miller Store if you have any additional questions at 888-798-0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com.

A shopper on May 13, 2015

Classic Seat - 15" inches
Tall Seat - 15.25" inches

Ottoman - 17.25" inches (same height for both classic and tall versions)

Is the decal shown for the question about decals the only one I should see?

My Eames chair purchase in 2001 has only a rectangle silver metallic
Herman Miller label. I often wondered if my chair was an authentic Herman Miller since the video for the manufacture of the chair shows it all to be very exacting and the lower back the attaches to the arms is not nor has it ever been straight.
A shopper on Feb 19, 2014
Best Answer: We would love to help you identify if you have an authentic Eames Lounge Chair! In addition to the silver Herman Miller label, there should be a white, rectangular sticker under the chair with the model number, data, and a six or seven digit number. Once you find this information, please contact Herman Miller Customer Care at 888.798.0202 or hmstore@hermanmiller.com. We would be happy to look up your order with this information to confirm if it is an authentic Eames Lounge Chair.
What is the approximate cost of a full set of standard black leather cushions?

I realize you have many options of colors and leather types. You comment in an earlier post that replacement parts are available by calling your phone number.

However, I'm curious to the approximate cost of a full set of replacement leather parts, including the ottoman? I'm most interested in the standard grade black leather.

If you could provide an approximate cost or range for a full set of replacement leather parts/cushions, it would be very helpful.

Thanks

About six years ago, we began offering the tall version. Some people 5'11" and taller choose the taller version for the additional seat depth. Overall, the tall version adds approximately 2 additional inches of height and seat depth.
