Glass

For normal cleaning, use products specifically designed for glass.

Wood & Veneer

This includes Herman Miller products finished with wood veneer or recut wood veneer, except the oiled Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman with Rosewood, Oiled Walnut, or Oiled Santos Palisander veneer unless specifically noted.

Normal Cleaning
Dust regularly with a slightly damp, soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe dry with a dry, soft cloth in the directionof the wood grain.Spills should be immediately wiped up with a damp cloth.

Once a month
Clean the surface with a soft cloth dampened with a quality cleaner formulated for wood furniture. Wipe the surface in the direction of the wood grain to remove dirt and fingerprints. Wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Twice a year
Apply a good quality furniture polish with a soft cloth. Do not use aerosol-powered cleaners or polishes. Also, do not use polishes containing waxes or abrasives, or polishes that are oil based.

Stains
Herman Miller veneers meet strict testing standards for resistance to wear, light, stains, water, and pressure. To reduce the risk of damage, take some precautions: Use coasters for glasses and mugs. If a glass top is added to the veneer surface, be sure it rests on felt pads. Don’t place a potted plant on a veneer surface unless it’s in a water-tight container or in a drip tray.Don’t let vinyl binders stay on a surface for very long. Use protective pads under equipment with “rubber” cushioning feet. Some chemical compounds used in the feet on office equipment, such as printers and monitor stands, may leave permanent stains or marks.

Minor repair of water rings, stains, and scratches
Rub the surface lightly in the direction of the wood grain using No. 000 steel wool. Apply a scratch-removing polish with a color and value that simulate the veneer. If the scratches are deep, consult a professional furniture refinisher.

Other Damage
Wood is susceptible to bruising and scratching from heavy office equipment, so we encourage a protective surface is placed underneath. Objects should be lifted instead of dragged across a surface. Protective pads should be used under items with a rough bottom, like pottery. Denting, caused by extreme pen pressure when writing, can also damage veneer. Use desk pads or some other protection where a lot of paperwork is done. Sunlight can damage veneer as well, so veneer surfaces should not be in direct sunlight. To help a surface age evenly, users can periodically move items on their desks so that the entire surface is exposed to an even amount of light over time. In addition to light, extremely high or low humidity is a damaging environmental factor. Herman Miller suggests maintaining a relative humidity of 35-65 percent.

Perfection!
I've wanted a Noguchi table for a long time, but to be honest, just didn't want to spend the money. After thoroughly investigating the knockoffs, I learned that they have a tendency to collapse! Decision made - I ordered the Noguchi table from Herman Miller and could not be happier with my purchase!!! The table is truly a piece of art. Also noteworthy is how wonderful the Herman Miller representatives were - customer service at its finest.

Nice!
I rated the table "average" for comfort since it's not applicable. It's beautiful -- actually better looking in person than in the photo.

Putting it together was a breeze -- but unless you are Hercules, it's a two-person job.

Definitely worth the purchase.

Ignore the cheap imitations, this is the real deal
If your budget allows for this original, I highly recommend it. The simple design is wonderful and the glass top is thicker and heavier than anticipated. It is a perfect complement to a mid-century modern design, and I was pleased with both the quality the delivery timeframe and the delivery staff that set it up.

Design envy
I have been drooling over this table for a very long time. Granted, compared to the knockoffs, this table may seem pricey, but believe me that it is worth it. Starting with the glass to the solid wood base construction, this table will last you a life time.

I have also heard that the knockoff's are made from press-wood, which causes the base to break if you're not really careful. That won't happen with the original!

I couldn't be happier with my purchase and who doesn't like a conversation piece at the center of their living room? In the process of purchasing a new rug, since the one we currently have is waaay too busy!

A true work of art.
The perfect combination of function and form. It is a stunning focal point and yet the transparency opens up the room.

Beautiful table
I bought this table as a present for my Fianc, since he's always wanted one. Looking at pictures online, I wasn't sure I would love it as much as he does. But once it was set up in our living room, it looked amazing! It's so elegant, beautiful and light, that I can't imagine a space it wouldn't look great in.

Outstanding piece of furniture.
It's a gorgeous table to look at, and a solid piece of furniture that can be used even with little kids around.

Is it metal or wood? How much will it cost?
A shopper on Dec 9, 2012

Putting my feet up

While sitting on a couch, is it safe to "put my feet up" on a Noguchi table?
A shopper on Feb 23, 2012
Best Answer: The glass top of the Noguchi Table sits on top of the base, but is not attached. The weight of the glass holds it in place to avoid shifting, and the wood legs interlock to form a tripod for self-stabilizing support. Although the glass is a 3/4 inch thick sturdy plate-glass, the table is not designed for putting your feet up.

If there is anything else we can help with, please give us a call at 888.798.0202.
How much weight can the Noguchi Table hold?

My family likes to stack huge books on our Noguchi Table. A single architecture book can weigh about 30 lbs, and we have six on the table now. Since the stacks are concentrated on the center of the table, I'm concerned if this cause any damage to the table. The glass seemed thick and sturdy, but the weight of the glass is also responsible for holding the wooden structure in place, I'd appreciate some technical specs of how much weight the table can hold, to feel assured. Thank you!
A shopper on Jun 30, 2012
Best Answer: Herman Miller does not have technical specifications for the Noguchi Table; however, the weight limit for the glass on this table is a maximum of 150 lbs distributed or centralized.
What is the length of each pivoting leg of the Noguchi Table?
A shopper on Feb 16, 2012
Best Answer: The top pivoting leg for the Noguchi Table that has the longest portion touching the glass measures 30.5 inches. The lower pivoting leg that has the longest portion touching the floor measures 29.5 inches. Attached is an image with the associated measurements.

If there is anything else we can help with, please give us a call at 888.798.0202.
What are the dimensions of the glass top?
Donna H on Feb 12, 2018
Best Answer: The dimensions for the glass top of the Noguchi Table are 50" by 36" in its widest spots.

Has anyone tried to move the table after assembly?

I sometimes have to move the table to pull out a sofa bed, and was wondering if the table holds up to moving it (and if so, where do you grab to move the table?) or if I have to take off the glass, them move the base to prevent it from crashing.
A shopper on Mar 27, 2017
Best Answer: Always remove the glass before moving the table. This is both for safety reasons and to prevent damaging the table base/glass top.

How can I tell if I have an original 1940's Noguchi table base?

I recently purchased a Noguchi table from an elderly lady who inherited this table from her aunt who bought it in Baltimore during the 1940's/50's. The owner told me that the original glass was green and she had it professionally restore but them her dog broke the glass. The base is a solid wood with dark stain which I assume is ebony but it does not look exactly identical to the newer versions listed on your site and does not have any markings. Was the original table base a slightly different size/design?

If it is original I will replace the glass but I need some help to determine this.

Thank you.
A shopper on Feb 2, 2015
Best Answer: The Noguchi Table began production in 1947. Unfortunately, labeling or creating authenticity markings was not a concern when production first began on these tables. The Ebonized Walnut has been an available option since the production of the Noguchi Table.

You are able to send a picture of your base to Herman Miller Customer Care at HMCustomercare@Hermanmiller.com and they will try to determine if your table base look authentic.

If you have any other questions, please reach out to the Herman Miller Online Store at hmstore@hermanmiller.com or 888.798.0202.
What is the thickness of the glass?
A shopper on Dec 19, 2013
Best Answer: The glass for the Noguchi Table is 3/4 of an inch thick. If you have any further questions, please contact Herman Miller Customer Care at 888.798.0202.
Have you ever considered offering a white painted finish (or any colors other than black)?
A shopper on May 8, 2013
Best Answer: The Noguchi table base was originally produced with 4 finish options which are all available via our online store.

These finishes are as follows:
- Natural Cherry
- Black
- Walnut
- White ash

To stay true to the artists design, the Noguchi Foundation has authenticated the production of the Noguchi Table in the finishes it was originally produced in. At this time, the Noguchi Foundation is not considering any additions to the current finish offering.
