Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair with Wood Base

A Foundation for Modern Furniture Design

George Nelson invented the concept of the family room. And with their exceptional comfort and enduring style, these chairs are perfect for yours.

These Eames chairs are molded to fit the contours of the body, so sitting on this icon of modern design feels good. By molding thin sheets of lightweight veneer into gently curved shapes, Charles and Ray Eames managed to give a hard material a soft appearance and establish the foundation for the design of modern furniture. And with an added layer of upholstery on the seat and back, sitting in these chairs is a delightful experience. Add a layer of upholstery to enhance an already delightful sitting experience.

  • Finish Choices

    Upholstery and Finish Choices

These chairs can be upholstered in just about any fabric of you like. When upholstered, the chair's back and seat have exposed veneer on the back sides. Veneers are available in six wood finishes—white ash, ebonized ash, natural cherry, walnut, and santos palisander. Or you can have them in a richly grained birch veneer stained red.

  • Solid Construction

    Solid Construction

The plywood has natural face veneers with hardwood inner plies and a five-ply seat and back, together with gracefully curved eight-ply legs. All of the veneers are obtained from sustainable sources. Natural rubber shock mounts absorb movement. The lounge chair is 26.5 inches high and has a more distinct slope than the dining chair.

Best Design of the
Century

In 1999, in its Millennium issue, Time magazine named the chairs Best Design of the (20th) Century. Runner-up: a steam locomotive.

Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair Wood Base 5 5 1 1
Timeless and endlessly comfortable This is genuinely an unbelievably comfortable chair. To look at it's such a fantastic design, but to sit in is to really appreciate the brilliance. From experience myself, as well as guests of all shapes and sizes, the comfort is unbeatable for something so small, light and un-upholstered. It sits quite low to the floor and lets you stretch out your legs. The seat and back 'float' on rubber shocks that allow them to flex to accommodate your posture and movements. I sit in our LCWs to read on occasion, the lack of armrests makes it difficult to truly lounge in, but with my arms occupied by a book, the rest of my body remains very comfortable. The construction is very stable and solid, but the chair is light and easy to move around. We use our pair of hair-hide LCWs from Herman Miller's 2009 Select program in our formal living room and our cherry LCW as an accent all over the house. August 27, 2012
