Dan Grabowski

Growing up, Dan Grabowski was influenced by his father, a builder. “When my dad needed to create or repair something, he would design a solution and then we would go off together and build it,” he says. At college, Grabowski merged his maker skills with a love of art by studying industrial design. His decades-long career has seen him design a range of products that are functional and beautiful.

Working from a converted carriage house in Providence, Rhode Island, Observatory founders Ayako Takase and Cutter Hutton begin with empathy. “We become that person who will be using the design. We have to make it and experience it before we are satisfied,” says Takase. From tabletop decor to home office essentials, the duo uses an informed approach to creatively answer today’s design needs.
