A Reflection of Nature

San Francisco designer Yves Béhar, of fuseproject, wanted the Ardea personal light to reflect nature and have a minimal impact on it. Inspired by the flexible necks of the great herons, he created the Ardea light to provide the same kind of versatility. "Ardea focuses on giving the user flexibility and personal control over their lighting experience," he says. "Often, with cluttered desks and a constricting shade, the user cannot light the area of the desk they need. With Ardea's fabric sheathed joints, the range of motion and light output is expanded significantly."

A Forward Looking Collaboration

Béhar says he's very content designing products for companies who are "looking for departure, change, and transformation. I'm continually excited working with people who want to move forward into the future and on to the next generation." Béhar decided that he wanted to collaborate with us. "Design is very much at the center of Herman Miller's culture," he says. "So one day I just picked up the phone, called them, and said, 'Let's work together.'"

Four years later, we proudly introduced his two brilliantly innovative lighting products, Ardea and Leaf.

Polished Aluminum

For normal cleaning, apply a pre-softened paste wax to polished aluminum components following the manufacturer's instructions. In humid atmospheres near salt water, apply the wax once a month. In other areas, apply wax every three months to maintain the appearance of the aluminum.

Coated Metal

For normal cleaning, wash coated metal surfaces with a soft cloth soaked in detergent and warm water; rinse thoroughly and dry. Remove scuff marks from low-gloss coatings with pre-softened paste wax, following the manufacturer's instructions. Remove scuff marks and scratches from high-gloss coatings using automotive polishing compounds, either liquid or paste. After polishing, apply a pre-softened automotive paste wax to restore original sheen.
