Eames Hang-It-All

Designers: Charles and Ray Eames
With their Hang-It-All, Charles and Ray Eames elevated the everyday coat rack into something inventive and fun. First crafted with multicolored hooks and a white wire frame, two new monochromatic options, all-black and all-white, expand the offering with fidelity to the sophistication—and sense of play—of the original.

Eames Hang-It-All

Practical Everywhere

Originally designed for children, the Hang-It-All is now considered at home in places where adults work and play, too.

Although it's fun, it's practical, too. Strong enough to hold winter overcoats, laptop case, or messenger bag, it's a cheerful piece that can brighten up a foyer, mud room, bedroom, kitchen, or bathroom.

  • Form

    Form

To create the rack's wire frame, Charles and Ray and the Eames Office applied the mass-production techniques for welding wires they had developed for earlier designs. The frame has a powder coat finish, and each of its angular bends is capped with solid wood balls. First crafted with multicolored balls and a white frame, the design now also comes in two monochromatic options: all-black or all-white.

  • Function

    Function

The sense of playful originality that Charles and Ray Eames brought to all their work is especially notable in their Eames Hang-It-All. It first appeared in 1953 as a place made for a child's belongings. But for all its whimsy, the Hang-It-All is a useful piece of art. For secure mounting, the hardware package includes drywall anchors and screws. 14 5/8 inches high, 19 3/4 inches wide, 6 1/2 inches deep.

Although almost all Herman Miller products are made in the United States, the Hang-It-All is one of the few products currently made overseas.

Can the Hang-It-All be used for wet towels?

I'd love to put this in the bathrooms in my house. Will damp conditions be a problem? How about direct contact with wet towels? How many towels (bath size) could a Hang-It-All accommodate?

Answers

Answer:
The Eames Hang-It-All can hold approximately ten bath towels, although we would not recommend putting damp towels on the Hang-It-All. The balls are made of solid wood with a painted finish so it is best to follow proper care and maintenance for wood surfaces to ensure quality over time.

Answer:
Herman Miller does not recommend painting any portion of the Eames-Hang-It-All, therefore we are unable to recommend any type of paint. The Eames-Hang-It-All structure is made from welded steel and is painted with a powder-coat finish for durability with daily use.

Eames Hang-It-All 5 5 2 2
The design and function couldn't be better It's like a functional piece of art. We have a big family that accumulates a lot of stuff. The Hang-It-All handles the clutter perfectly. The amount of hooks in different sizes and heights makes it easy for all of the family to use. Love the design so much I find myself taking things off so it's not hidden under all the gear. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs a stylish place to control the the clutter. January 24, 2014
Great accent piece! Functional, durable, colorful and easy to install - exactly what we needed as an a "hanging" element in a dorm room re-design. May 30, 2013
