Care and Maintenance

Divider

Seat, Back, Base and Frame

Normal cleaning

Wash surface with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners.

Arm Pads

Normal cleaning

Wash with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.

Do not use solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners.

Ink stains

Apply isopropyl alcohol to a clean, damp absorbent cloth. Start at the outside of the ink stain and work towards the center. Apply pressure but do not rub too vigorously. It is important as the cloth becomes stained, use a clean section of the dampened cloth or the stain will spread. Apply isopropyl alcohol to the cloth as needed.

If ink stain persists, use acetone in place of procedure above. This procedure is not intended for normal cleaning.

Fabric Seat and Back

Normal cleaning

Vacuum fabric as needed using an upholstery attachment. Vacuuming picks up dust and reduces the need for professional cleaning.

Do not brush fabric or use a vacuum attachment with a rotary brush. Brushing may permanently damage the nap or change the character of the fabric.

Spot cleaning

Immediately soak up the stain with a soft absorbent cloth.

Do not dry the stain completely or it may set. The longer a stain is allowed to remain on a fabric, the more difficult it is to remove.

Water-based stains such as coffee, soft drinks, fruit juices, or milk

Use a water-based cleaner (specifically made for cleaning fabric) or a solution of mild (alkaline) warm soapy water (not overly soapy) applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Work the cleaner into a lather or foam.

Never use hot water; it will set the stain. Avoid scrubbing.

Oil-based stains such as lipstick, grease, or salad dressing

Use a dry cleaning solution applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Test the cleaning solution on a small, concealed area first. If there is no spotting, ringing, or damage to the fabric or its dyes, apply the cleaning solution to the soiled area with light, quick strokes. Begin at the outside of the stain and work toward the center, being careful not to over-saturate the fabric.

K2R is also a product that can be used. See product label for complete instructions. Do not over apply water or any liquid solution to fabric. Excessive wetting of the fabric with any liquid solution may result in permanent damage to the material. Do not rub too vigorously or you may damage the nap of the fabric or break fibers. Several light applications are better than one heavy application. Soak up all remaining solution and then use another clean cloth or sponge dipped in cool water to remove any residue. Let fabric dry thoroughly and then vacuum well before using. If the stain resists cleaning, contact a professional cleaner.

Large Areas

If large areas are soiled, contact a professional cleaning firm.

Poor Back Support
My office purchased this chair without the optional lumbar support adjustment. Myself and many of my co-workers are now experiencing issues of back and neck pain that have only started since switching to this chair.

Well worth it
My office purchased these chairs and I'm thankful they did. The chair helps eliminate my lower back pain caused by sitting for hours at a time. I purchased my own chair with all of the additions to use in my home office. The chair has ample customizability and evenly distributes your weight.

The first chair I was sent had a minor stitching defect. Herman Miller immediately sent me a replacement and let me return the original chair once I was happy with the new one. Great service and excellent product!

Dont Buy Cheap! Buy This!
I knew Herman Miller was quality but have mistakenly purchased "big box store" furniture for the price and convenience only to be disappointed within a few months of purchase.

This chair was easy to order, tailored to our family's needs and arrived via Fed-Ex ready to work right out of the box. We chose every option especially the Fabric back and are happy with the ease of controls, comfort and looks of this chair. It feels substantial and purpose built for many hours of home-office use.

Everything is adjustable; height, arms, seat, back, lumbar and tilt. This chair is the "Swiss Army" of office chairs.

Terrible chair, will break your back
I work at Amazon in Seattle. This chair in its maximum configuration is standard here at Amazon. Despite its high price, the chair is one of the worst in my 25-year software developer career. I have an $80 mesh chair at home, ant it's much, much better than this one. This chair only exacerbated my back problems, and I heard multiple similar complaints from my colleagues of all ages.

First of all, the lumbar support is bad. Despite the adjustable lumbar support, its not working. I had to insert three notebooks, half an inch each, between the adjustable support and the chair's back. This improved the lumbar support greatly, and now it is actually possible to sit in this chair for more than an hour.

The depth and the height of the back cannot be adjusted. And so called "design" (which in this context usually means the looks) does not really matter if the construction is terrible. I bet the designer never sat in this chair for more than 20 minutes, and never asked the opinion of the people who are actually supposed to use this chair, such as software engineers who have to sit 8 hours a day in it.

If you have money to waste and a back to hurt then go ahead and buy it. Oh, the build quality is good, but again, it does not matter much if the ergonomics is bad.

Excellent quality and comfort
The chair is well designed to provide comfort and adjustability.

Easy to adjust and very comfortable
I was able to easily and quickly make the various adjustments to suit my needs. The chair is very comfortable and I'm not nearly as stiff as I used to be when standing after having sat for 30 minutes or more. The only thing I miss is a higher back so I can rest my head for an occasional quick snooze.

Excellent
A comfortable and customizable chair. We purchased 2 for our office and they are an great combination of price, features, solid construction. In addition the delivery was much faster than scheduled so how can you beat that?

Excellent chair
Miraculously we waited 10 years to buy a new chair and are ecstatic that we found this one. It is far more comfortable than any chairs we've used in offices.

Should have done this years ago
Since I work from home - you need to consider the amount of time you are in your work station - or - just doing personal computer work = THIS IS A MUST DO. Should have done it years ago!

Armrest Replacement

My cat, in a fit of retribution, took a bite out of the armrest of my chair which is only a few months old. Is it possible to replace the armrest cover or perhaps the arm of this chair?

seat angle - forward tilt?

I'm interested in getting this chair with seat angle adjustment, but I need to confirm that I can tilt the seat at a FORWARD angle -- as in, the front edge of the seat is actually LOWER than the back (most office chairs do not have this function, it's hard to find). I don't see it happening in the video.
A shopper on Nov 7, 2014
Best Answer: When the Forward Tilt is engaged on the Celle Chair, the entire chair is being tilted forward by a slight angle of 5 degrees. With this slight 5 degree forward angle, it does mean the front edge of the seat is lower than the back of the seat.

Arm rest height between seat and highest setting of arm rest

I have a person with a tall torso. Trying to find armrests that come up higher than the Aeron chair arms do from the seat.
A shopper on Jan 12, 2017
Best Answer: The armrests on the Celle Chair have a height range of 6.8" to 10.8" from the seat to the top of the pad. There are two other chairs that offer a greater height range - Mirra 2 and Embody.

-Mirra 2: 6" to 11.5" from the seat to the top of the pad

-Embody: 6" to 11.5" from the seat to the top of the pad
