Wood & Veneer

This includes Herman Miller products finished with wood veneer or recut wood veneer, except the oiled Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman with Rosewood, Oiled Walnut, or Oiled Santos Palisander veneer unless specifically noted.

Normal Cleaning
Dust regularly with a slightly damp, soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe dry with a dry, soft cloth in the directionof the wood grain.Spills should be immediately wiped up with a damp cloth.

Once a month
Clean the surface with a soft cloth dampened with a quality cleaner formulated for wood furniture. Wipe the surface in the direction of the wood grain to remove dirt and fingerprints. Wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Twice a year
Apply a good quality furniture polish with a soft cloth. Do not use aerosol-powered cleaners or polishes. Also, do not use polishes containing waxes or abrasives, or polishes that are oil based.

Stains
Herman Miller veneers meet strict testing standards for resistance to wear, light, stains, water, and pressure. To reduce the risk of damage, take some precautions: Use coasters for glasses and mugs. If a glass top is added to the veneer surface, be sure it rests on felt pads. Don’t place a potted plant on a veneer surface unless it’s in a water-tight container or in a drip tray.Don’t let vinyl binders stay on a surface for very long. Use protective pads under equipment with “rubber” cushioning feet. Some chemical compounds used in the feet on office equipment, such as printers and monitor stands, may leave permanent stains or marks.

Minor repair of water rings, stains, and scratches
Rub the surface lightly in the direction of the wood grain using No. 000 steel wool. Apply a scratch-removing polish with a color and value that simulate the veneer. If the scratches are deep, consult a professional furniture refinisher.

Other Damage
Wood is susceptible to bruising and scratching from heavy office equipment, so we encourage a protective surface is placed underneath. Objects should be lifted instead of dragged across a surface. Protective pads should be used under items with a rough bottom, like pottery. Denting, caused by extreme pen pressure when writing, can also damage veneer. Use desk pads or some other protection where a lot of paperwork is done. Sunlight can damage veneer as well, so veneer surfaces should not be in direct sunlight. To help a surface age evenly, users can periodically move items on their desks so that the entire surface is exposed to an even amount of light over time. In addition to light, extremely high or low humidity is a damaging environmental factor. Herman Miller suggests maintaining a relative humidity of 35-65 percent.

Seating Fabrics

For normal cleaning, vacuum upholstery fabric as needed, using an upholstery attachment. If further cleaning is needed, dry-clean or spot clean fabric with solvent cleaner.

Do not brush fabric or use a vacuum attachment with a rotary brush. Brushing may permanently damage the nap or change the character of the fabric.

Do not apply water or any liquid solution. Wetting the fabric with any liquid solution may result in permanent damage.

Great Design & Scale
The chair is beautifully designed and extremely well-made. It is also light enough to be easily moved. What I appreciate the most is that it is scaled for apartment living. It provides comfort, visual appeal and leaves plenty of floor space for smaller environments.

I own two of them!
Fantastic classic chairs! I have one in cherry and a second in walnut. They are comfortable to sit on and beautiful to look at. My only gripe is with the veneer on the walnut chair. The wood has a strange pattern. I considered returning it but decided to keep it.

These chairs are a piece of American design history and are wonderful to own like all Eames products. You won't be disappointed.

The most comfortable chair in the house
This chair was a gift. I first liked the color and design (I have the red version), then when I sat in it, was very surprised by just how comfortable it is - by far the best chair in the house!

Looks hot, feels bad
Eames was very good at creating uncomfortable seating, without fully embracing engineering and form. This well recognized chair is interesting and hip, but, oh, so, uncomfortable. No one, looking to relax after a long day, would feel releif in this chair. It is hard to sit on hard surfaces for very long, and without pads or cushions, this chair will only act as a statue, not a functional piece. Great for stagers!

Timeless and endlessly comfortable
This is genuinely an unbelievably comfortable chair. To look at it's such a fantastic design, but to sit in is to really appreciate the brilliance. From experience myself, as well as guests of all shapes and sizes, the comfort is unbeatable for something so small, light and un-upholstered.

It sits quite low to the floor and lets you stretch out your legs. The seat and back 'float' on rubber shocks that allow them to flex to accommodate your posture and movements. I sit in our LCWs to read on occasion, the lack of armrests makes it difficult to truly lounge in, but with my arms occupied by a book, the rest of my body remains very comfortable.

The construction is very stable and solid, but the chair is light and easy to move around. We use our pair of hair-hide LCWs from Herman Miller's 2009 Select program in our formal living room and our cherry LCW as an accent all over the house.

White ash turning yellow

Will the white ash lcw turn yellow over time as other ash wood furniture do?
A shopper on Feb 24, 2016
Best Answer: Yes it will! I bought a pair in white ash from Herman Miller 20 years ago. Now, they are the most gorgeous burnished warm color. Not yellow. Sort of a warm honey.

Do you sell replacements for the rubber attachment?

I have an original Eames chair, the glue or epoxy that holds the rubber to the seat back failed. The rubber piece is still attached to the back. My chair is walnut.
