A Functional, Fashionable Home Workspace

A Functional, Fashionable Home Workspace

Choose the desk alone or pair it with the complementary Eames storage units to create a functional, fashionable home office.

The desk and storage units complement each other and provide ample storage, work, and display space. And with their industrial aesthetic and color options, they look as striking now as they did when first introduced in 1950.

  • Practicality

    Practicality

A desk should be practical and functional. At 60 inches wide, 28 inches deep, and 29 inches high, the Desk Unit provides plenty of surface space.

It also features a drawer that can accommodate hanging file folders and is covered with an easily accessible storage or display area. The drawer can be placed on the right or left side.

  • Fun

    Fun

The neutral color scheme uses birch veneer with white and black accents to create a sleek, high-tech look. The bright color scheme uses red, blue, black, and white hardboard panels and surfaces that are reminiscent of a Mondrian painting.

  • Style

    Style

The steel cross-supports and uprights give the units an industrial feel, and the plywood drawer fronts and shelves reinforce the furniture's mid-century modern appearance.

  • Strength

    Strength

Uprights and cross-supports are zinc-coated steel; drawer fronts and shelves are smooth plywood; side panels are painted hardboard. Nylon foot glides are easy on floors.

That is, I need a left-side configuration for my current working space, but I would switch to a right-side drawer configuration in the future, space permitting. It looks like the parts should be reversible, but I'd like to be sure before I buy. Thanks!

Answer:
The Eames Desk Unit is structurally specific to the drawers orientation. Any modifications to the unit post purchase could compromise the integrity of the product and would void the warranty.

We do offer desks without storage that would provide flexibility and could accommodate a changing work space.

How thick is the first layer, and how thick are the two layers (the wood and the black layer) together? Also, how far in before the black layer starts? I'm trying to determine if my table clamps will work.

Answer:
The birch plywood desktop layer is 10/14 inches (.714"). The black support beam is 1.25" thick. The black support is set 1" back from the back of the desk, and its thickness is 1.25". If you are looking to clamp over both the top and the black support, the total thickness would be 1.964". Attached below is a more detailed photo of the desk's thickness.

Eames Desk Unit 5 5 1 1
A solid, attractive and functional office addition I bought my Eames desk based on a recommendation. It's more than I'd hoped for. It's so cool, I invite friends into my home office to show it off. Not only does it look great, it's a solid desk that I expect will last considerably longer than its owner! December 28, 2013
